Webinar Week 1: Building the Funnel (full video and recap)

Genevieve Cruz (Recruiting Manager @ Binc) + Gregarious Narain (Serial Entrepreneur, TechStars Advisor) helped walk us through how to set the stage for a successful hiring process.

Some of my favorite tips:

  • Use your company values to guide the hiring process

  • These early hires steer the culture and values of your company

  • Be open to augmenting your company’s values based on the collection of people you’re assembling

  • Wait until you’re in real pain. Make sure there will be sustained work and need for a hire before adding to your team in such a long-term way, and not just a short-term annoyance you’d like help with.

  • Determine who will be doing the interviews in advance

  • Include cross-functional roles in the process

  • Work together to determine exactly what you’re looking for in this hire, and build out interview questions (and ideally a rubric) to score candidates on answers.

  • Time kills all deals. Lots of factors in play, but the best hiring happens within a month form start to finish. Plan your hires when you will have a full month to focus on this project.
