SUMMER OF STRESS
Working Parents Take on Summer
“The summer months caused no end of stress over the workdays missed, vacation days used, money meted out. This was far from easy whether parents worked full-time or not.”
Tips to help hustling parents thrive at your workplace:
- If you’re going to end up giving July 5th (or any other days this summer) off to employees, do it early (ie - right this minute) so parents don’t need to scramble and figure out childcare for that day (yes, many parents are literally doing this right now)
- Have empathy for and confidence in your colleagues with kids. They will continue to get the job done!
- If you offer unlimited PTO, do an audit and actively encourage people who haven’t been away lately to use some time to recharge - Communicate flexibility for arrival/departure from the office to manage augmented camp schedules (this can usually be made up later from home or through extra daily efficiency)
